Team Rider:Vincent's Report on Peyragudes 2Luxe Cup

Peyragudes is in the Pyrenees Mountains and now I live in the Alps mountains so we had a big travel to do to reach the event.

We were 4 riders of LA FAMILIA and Scoot Smith. It took around 9 hours to go to Peyragudes.

We arrived Tuesday night.

Wednesday was freeride. It was very nice to see all my Bordeaux’s friends. Last year, I organised it, so it was strange to ride it this year.

The track was so nice… We rode 4 by 4; just after the pushing, you ride under a bridge and go into a little new technical part. In this part , the road isn’t perfect, so it’s slide a little.

After a pin , we enter in the speed part of the track : one very big schuss on very wide road with two big curbs where you enter without break. Impressive sensation!

Now you have the most speed of the track, you are very concentrated because a big pin gets closer…

A lot of break or big slide to cross this pin.

If you don’t crash into the straw, you success to reach the technical part. I call it “technical part”, nor because it’s hard, but because you have to be very clear and perfect. As it’s a slow section, if you break too much or if you slide a little, you lose a lot of speed and time. In this part, there are 2 other pins.

Just before the finish line, you arrive in the last schuss (around 75 or 80 km/h I think) and go in the last big curb-pin (you can go inside very fast without breaking a lot, very nice turn).

And then you reach the finish line.

Wednesday, we made a lot of run with friends and international riders. I was very interesting to ride with unknown people, to see how they ride, to test something…

With the Landy Evo, I have the sensation that I can make what I want. The perfect board for me…So stoked!!

Thursday morning was also freeride, and after lunch (all the meals were in restaurant…very deluxe event) began qualifications. Each rider had two run of qualification. We were around 105 longskaters, and after the qualification, only 64 riders will continue to the final.

I decided to make my first run very safe to be sure to have a time. If I crashed in the first run , the pressure would have been big, and risks to fall also. That’s why I made a nice run, and after this I finished 34 of 105. I was quite happy because there were a lot of very good international riders.

For my second run, as I was nearly sure to be in the 64 qualified riders, I decided to take some risks.

It was not decisive, in the big pin after the schuss, I entered too hardly, It slides a little, and the crash was just avoided. So my best run was the first.

So for the qualification, I was 42 on 105 longskaters.

Then it was the qualification for the streetluge, buttboard, inline roller, dirtsurf and skullboard, so I had just to watch it under the sunny weather…Perfect moment.

Friday was normally the time to finish the qualifications for the others disciplines and to make also freeride. But no, it was raining, so we had time to relax in the morning… In the afternoon, with friends, we decided to go to another near spot to ride: 14 pins in 3km…Very good training!!

Last day, Saturday. The finals!!

I will make short… For my first run, I was with Scoot Smith, Wave (a French rider) and English sponsored by Lush... The finish was the same as the qualifications time... Scoot first, Wave second, me third and the English in last…So I was quite disappointed...

So for this event, I was 40th on 105 with all the internationals riders and 8th French riders!!

As there are a lot of pictures, I will choose for you the better at my return of The Graveyard Call (the second stage of French championship and World Championship).

DEITY Outlaw and Slalom Race Results!

Here's what Kyle has to say about the race:

The Deity outlaw couldn't have worked out better! We had 35 registered riders (over 50 total ripping around dh & Slalom skaters) from all over the Denver metro area and a ton of STOKE. Ages ranged from 13-50 years old and I have never seen such a large gathering of skaters in Colorado.
I'm having a full write up done on the race in the next week.

Thanks David for the swag the kids ate it up! The Next Race is July 5! I'll be heading out to New Mexico- June 27-29 for the Timeship Outlaw, Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo Calgary, Canada July 24-26th then off to Maryhill. Hopefully a Cali outlaw somewhere in there... we should hit GMR!

Couple of the Atlanta locals on the frequented "REI" deck everyone hears so much about. 8 stories with a chairlift (elevator). Watch out for those expansion joints though! (Videos are courtesy of Al Garcia's GoPro Headcam.) Very chill and a great place to learn!

Darnetal - Vincent

From the Stoked International Team attending the French Championships:

Ho, so incredible 3 days weekend!! We came back of the first stage of French Championship. It took place near Rouen in France, and it’s called Darnétal.

I already went to it last year, around 3 km. First technical part with big pushing zone, one right 90° turn that we could ride without breaking, and after one right and one left pins. After that a long long schuss (around 1km), so it is a hard part because everyone could take aspiration on other rider. To finish, one full speed right curb. Very interesting track.

We were 4 rider of the association “LA FAMILIA” so we were a little team. We saw a lot of friends, and it was cool, we are a big family of riders. All around the France, and even in foreigner countries like English, Swiss and German.

We found a car partnership, so we could put a lot of gear. First day was freeride. We had a lot of fun, and made a lot and crazy run.

Second day, it was qualification time. We had 2 run to make the best time. Between last year and this year, the level had increase!! This year, I made 11 second in less than last year so it’s good I find!!

I can make a lot of new things with my Landyachtz. I am very happy with it.

We were around 70 riders in stand up, and after qualification, we were only 64. It will good for my association friends, Koma and me.

And finally, the last day, just two warm-up run and after, finals runs…

About the open classement, I finished 32 on 70 riders. And about the French Championship tour, my classement is 15 on 40.

And I join to you some photos.

I spoke a lot about Stoked skateboard shop , and Koma bring his banner to the event, and it appears in a lot of pictures.

I am proud to represent .

Malarrara Pro Teutonia World Cup Washed Out

Teutonia Brazil – Rain spelled complete disaster for the Malarrara Pro Teutonia World Cup. Both Saturdays and Sunday’s activities were canceled due to heavy rain and thunder storms that created unsafe conditions on the race-course and caused flooding in the city of Teutonia. Final results were based on the lone qualifying run made on Friday. Douglas Silva earned the victory based on those times with Kevin Reimer finishing second and Everton Alves was third. Longboarding Full Face Helmets

Ok guys, we need some help here. There are no companies producing a longboarding specific full face helmet with a visor. Some of the guys over at Silverfishlongboarding.com have loosely organized to start an email campaign attempting to highlight this need to helmet manufacturers. The email we are sending to all the manufacturers is as follows:

Dear Helmet Manufacturer,

We, the members of Silverfishlongboarding.com, would like to request that you research the viability of a purpose built an affordable full face longboarding helmet. Our online community is more than 21,000 strong and spans the globe completely, representing almost every country that has ever heard of a skateboard. The market segment of longboarding is growing rapidly as evidenced by it's massive presence at the Action Sports Retailers convention this year.

The design would not be far from your current designs thus negating the need for expensive research and development of a new type of helmet. The main requirements of the equipment would be a lightweight face shield that is lift-able and removable, as well as adjustable venting to prevent fogging and overheating inside the helmet. A visor would not be needed in this application.

Price is a concern as the primary demographic for this product is from fifteen to twenty five years of age. This encompasses mostly high school and college age male purchasers. From the research that I have done, most prospective buyers would be amenable to a purpose built full face shielded helmet in the range of 80 to 120 dollars.

There are a number of online and brick and mortar stores that would be willing to carry this product immediately upon it's release.

James Peters, the man, the myth, the mystery has put up all the information you could ever want to know about LDP and then some. Take a read through the forums to find stoked individuals that are laying down hundreds of miles and enjoying the scenery. The site details the "UltraSkate", an event that James holds to push the boundaries of long distance skateboarding and raise money for charity. James is a wildman, as evidenced by his participation in the Solstice Parade (look for the pics). However, I couldn't recommend a better set of reading material for the distance minded skater...

Ivan Huang bombing a gnar hill on a sunny Cali afternoon. Low to Mid 30's, even with the strong late afternoon head-wind in the video. After seeing a tour bus pass by while I was getting ready, my goal was to catch that sucker. I failed (but you can still see me creep up on it a couple times). I lack a video editor which explains this being raw footage.

Squeaky Trucks

Ok, so here is another thing we are going to do with the blog. Share info and quick tech tips. One of the most asked questions out there is "Why are my trucks squeaking?"

Well rather than tell you that the coefficient of friction between the composite pivot cup material and the aluminum pivot point of the hanger in the reverse kingpin orientation causes squeaking when the parts have not been sufficiently worn.

I will tell you that a little bar of Ivory soap goes a long way. Shave off some soap dust using a butter knife. Sprinkle some of that dust into the pivot cup and "smoosh" a little around where the bushings seat. Reassemble the truck and guess what? No more squeaks!

Finding new places to skate...

Let this be a lesson that places to skate can pop up in the strangest places. I went to a place called McDaniel Farm Park the other day and found a massive system of fresh asphalt trails through the woods to LDP and DH. Tons of fun and right by my work. Here is a link to some of the pictures I took today. HERE And a picture of one of the better LDP trails and the great weather... Check your local "Rails to Trails" programs and your county parks for great places to longboard. As always, be respectful and wear a helmet.
